Faculty Assembly

 

The MiraCosta College Faculty Assembly (MCCFA) is the exclusive bargaining unit for all full-time faculty. This means that it is our responsibility and privilege to support you in various capacities -- from salary negotiations, to working conditions issues, to ensuring your due process rights and providing representation when needed. We are your employee organization! 

 

Over 85% of full-time faculty contribute a fraction of their salaries to the FA. The vast majority of these contribute at the recommended rate of 0.4%, which works out to $40/month for a faculty member making $100,000/year. This amount is significantly less than the membership dues required by the large teachers unions in California. Faculty who choose not to pay at the recommended rate may contribute a fixed amount each month that they deem to be fair and equitable. These generous financial contributions have helped make the FA an increasingly formidable part of the MCC community despite the fact dues are now and have always been entirely voluntary.

What do my dues support?

 

Legal Fees

This is the Faculty Assembly’s largest expense each year. We partner with an experienced attorney who helps us navigate legal issues related to the scope of our contract, past practice, defending faculty members under investigation, and district overreach.

 

CCCI Membership

We are one of the independent faculty unions in the state of California. A portion of dues contributions goes to paying membership fees for the California Community College Independents (CCCI). This organization provides a rich resource for identifying and dealing with the issues that most pertain to districts like ours.

 

Reassigned Time

The work of ensuring our faculty rights are being protected never stops. Dues contributions provide fair compensation for faculty members engaging in negotiations with the District, supporting faculty colleagues under investigation, and working on other special projects.

 

Philanthropy

Over the last few years, the FA has increased contributions to charitable causes that can have a positive impact on our students and MiraCosta community.
