Important Information for Families
Open enrollment has begun, and the FA has some advice for those considering creating or expanding your family. As part of the FA’s ongoing efforts to help MCC faculty members take full advantage of the benefits available to MCC employees, we are suggesting that those who are considering pregnancy take a close look at the AFLAC Short Term Disability Plan. Future Mothers As we all know, adding a child to your family is a costly endeavor, but for those who are planning ahead thi

Volunteering for the MiraCosta Bond
Passage of MiraCosta’s proposed bond measure will require 55% of voters in the MCC community college district to say “Yes” to MM. After losing a 2012 bond effort by a mere .15% (less than 300 votes), it’s understandable that those supporting the effort (including the FA) are pulling out all the stops to make this year’s bond drive a success. In these politically tumultuous times, with voters expressing their viewpoints in ways few could have predicted, it’s particularly impor

Dear Scotty, "Am I Paying Too Much?"
Dear Scotty, Long time reader, first time writer. My question is a bit more specific than some that appear in your column, and I’m not sure you can help me out with this. Specifically, this relates to contributions that I make to my Defined Benefit Supplement (DBS) account. I thought it was capped at 8%, but payroll seems to be taking out more than that. Remembering Leon Baradat
It’s with heavy hearts that we report that Political Science Instructor Emeritus Leon Baradat has passed away. Before coming to MiraCosta, he was at Tulare Union High School District

Resolution and Scholarship Honoring Leon Baradat

We’d like to personally thank Jonathan Cole and the other faculty volunteers who worked to organize his memorial on September 10. We would also like to extend public thanks to Academic Senate President Susan Herrmann for creating a joint AS-FA resolution honoring Leon. We could not have imagined a formal resolution written with such beauty, and for those reasons we would like to share th

About the MiraCosta Bond
By now you’ve probably heard quite a bit of chatter around campus about the upcoming MiraCosta bond election. If not, there is no doubt you will be hearing much more about it as the November elections approach. All one needs to do is look around the Oceanside campus to be convinced that the college needs this bond (though if that doesn’t convince you, feel free to take a ride on one of the toilets in the 4800 building). Once you’ve done that, the only real question remaining
