Ask Annie's on Sabbatical

Ask Annie launched in the fall of 2022 as a resource for faculty with questions about our contract. Every question I received, whether through the Ask Annie form, by direct email, or even in person while walking across campus, gave me a chance to carefully review the contract and reinforce my understanding. While I often knew the answers, I always checked the contract to confirm the exact language. I would then share that language, along with my explanation, with the faculty member who asked. This is a great practice for anyone, as contract language can change through negotiations, and our memories can sometimes be imperfect.

Ask Annie was also a valuable way to keep track of the types of questions faculty had, which helped to inform the contract-focused articles I wrote for the FA newsletter. If you didn't get a chance to read my October article on how to read our CBA, please check it out here.

I have always enjoyed contract writing and negotiations since my career before joining MiraCosta College, and I have been so grateful to support the FA Council and all full-time faculty as your Contract Liaison.
