By Billy Gunn

Latinx Graduation ($1000)

Chicanx/Latinx Graduation is an amazing celebration that touches the lives of many MiraCosta Students. The FA’s donations have supported culturally relevant entertainment such as Mariachis, Baile Folklorico Dancers, and keynote speakers. This quote from a graduating student embodies the importance of Latinx Graduation:

“Yay!! Thank you! I’m happy to add that my mom will be coming!!! I’m a first-generation college grad, I’m 40 (yes old lol) my mom only made it to 3rd grade in her ranchito in Mexico, so this is huge for her as well, thank you for recognizing us and making us feel so loved and special!!! Thank you!” – 2024 Chicanx/Latinx Graduate.

Student Life and Leadership Banquet ($1000)

On April 24, 2024 Student Life & Leadership held its first Student Leaders Banquet to recognize the various contributions of student leaders, clubs, faculty, and staff. The FA was happy to support this event that celebrates student contributions beyond the classroom!

Mana Program Celebration ($500)

This year’s Fa'au'uga event was the biggest ever, with 194 recorded attendees! The keynote speaker was Peter Afemata, chairman of the Fa'atasiga O Uso (FOU) Movement, which strengthens collaborative ties among community organizations. It was also the first opportunity to introduce the NHPI community to our new Athletics facilities. In addition to recognizing MCC graduates, this event also celebrated local NHPI K-12 students who are promoting/graduating, spotlighting Pasifika academic excellence at all levels. This year’s Mana graduates are transferring to CSU San Marcos, SFSU, University of Hawai'i at Manoa, and University of Auckland.

CLC Transition Scholarship ($500)

The Community Learning Center Transition Endowed Scholarship has a significant impact on the lives of CLC students as they make their transition from noncredit to credit coursework.  The FA is proud to continue funding this encouraging symbol of welcome and support.
