The Faculty Assembly Council has voted to join the Faculty Association for California Community Colleges (FACCC) as a contract district starting July 1, 2026. As a Faculty Assembly (FA) member, if you were already a dues-paying member of FACCC, the membership costs will now be covered by the FA for our dues-paying members. This designation comes with many benefits for all FA members, including enhanced representation, strengthened advocacy, increased political power, and professional learning opportunities.
As a contract district, MCC will be guaranteed a seat on the FACCC Board of Governors, giving us direct input into statewide decision-making and policy development. The FA will receive upon request an individualized analysis of how state regulations and policies affect our district, which can be incredibly valuable for our local bargaining and advocacy.
Wendy Brill-Wynkoop, Past President & Member Engagement, FACCC, shares, “Beyond representation, you will have priority access to FACCC's advocacy infrastructure, organized legislative visits, connections with your legislators, and weekly updates on what's happening in Sacramento,” strengthening our advocacy. In addition, she continues, “Your union will also be prioritized in our PAC's political agenda, including campaign support for FA-endorsed trustee candidates,” increasing the political power of the FA.
Regarding professional learning opportunities, as a contract district, members will receive a discounted rate to FACCC events, including the Great Teachers Seminar, an annual professional development event, annual union advocacy training, and a professional development event organized by FACCC and held at our college. Also, we are joining a network of thousands of faculty members already part of FACCC, which amplifies our collective voice in the capital.
Stay tuned for emails from FACCC in your inbox with their latest “The Weekly” updates.
