Billy Gunn, Incoming Faculty Assembly President

This spring, the MiraCosta College Faculty Assembly continued to prioritize funding initiatives that directly benefit students and strengthen the campus community. We rolled out a new process to submit and evaluate funding requests, which resulted in a more equitable distribution of FA funds.
As you will see below, emphasis was placed on projects that expand student access, celebrate achievement, support equity and inclusion, and create meaningful educational opportunities beyond the classroom. The FA is grateful for the wide range of requests submitted and the creativity, dedication, and student-centered work being led by our faculty colleagues.
Philanthropy Awards
The Faculty Assembly is proud to announce the following awards for Spring 2026. These awards support programs and initiatives that address student needs in a variety of ways.
A $500 award was approved for the MiraCosta College Health Services Foundation Fund to assist students who may otherwise delay or forgo healthcare because of financial barriers.
An $800 award was approved for the CLC Transition Scholarship, which supports NCESL and ESL students transitioning into credit coursework. This scholarship helps students continue their educational journey and reinforces the college’s commitment to equitable access and opportunity.
The National Adult Education Honors Society received $825 to support its induction ceremony honoring students who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and perseverance in reaching their educational goals.
The Theatre program’s R.I.S.E. initiative received $375 in support of The Book Club Play, a production celebrating equity and inclusion that opened during Black Student Success Week. This funding helps provide opportunities for student artists and promotes meaningful campus engagement through the arts.
The Faculty Assembly also awarded $1,000 to the MiraCosta Entrepreneurship & Innovation Challenge, a student-led and faculty-supported initiative that expands access to entrepreneurship education, mentorship, and business development resources for students interested in innovation and leadership.
Finally, $1,500 was awarded to the MiraCosta Women’s Rugby Sevens team to support travel and participation in the National Collegiate Tournament in Boyd, Maryland, where the team will compete for a national title.
Budget Outlook
The Faculty Assembly’s financial outlook continues to be very stable. As of May 1 for fiscal year 2025-2026, total income is approximately $85,000, while expenses are approximately $51,000. Overall spending remains aligned with the proposed budget, and there have been no major financial concerns or unexpected deviations during the current fiscal year.
One notable change is a new recurring expense following the Faculty Assembly Council’s vote to become a FACCC contract district. This decision provides important benefits and representation opportunities for MCCFA members but requires an amendment to the budget to account for monthly dues of approximately $2,700 starting July 1, 2026.
Even with this additional expense, the FA remains in a strong financial position. Current projections indicate that the Faculty Assembly will continue meeting all financial obligations while also growing reserve funds.
