As a new (not interim) Faculty Assembly Executive Committee member, I would like to share information about myself and my time here at MiraCosta College. As you may know, I am currently serving on the executive committee for the spring 2026 semester on an interim basis.  The past few months have provided insight into the responsibilities and inner workings of the executive position. Having the chance to be a part of the weekly meetings and negotiation process has opened my eyes to challenges and opportunities the committee encounters in support of MiraCosta faculty. I am in awe of the leadership and teamwork of the exec committee and look forward to working with them, learning from them, and continuing the work with a positive, employee centered, and mindful attitude.

In my counselor position and previous leadership roles I am tasked with keeping confidentiality, advocating, upholding laws and regulations, working to support students, faculty and staff members, staying updated on MCC policies and procedures, and insuring honesty, integrity, and trust throughout all my interactions as a faculty member. I feel my current responsibilities will transfer seamlessly to this committee and I am confident in my ability to represent full-time faculty members with the purpose set forth in the Faculty Assembly Constitution.

My previous leadership roles include:

  • 2018-2019 Interim Faculty Director, Disabled Students Programs and Services (now SAS)

  • 2017-2019 Senator, Academic Senate

  • 2022-2026 Faculty Assembly Council Member

  • 2026 – current Interim, Faculty Assembly Executive Member

  • Chair of several tenure committees

In my counseling position and previous leadership roles, I have found communication to be high on the list of extremely important responsibilities for committees. This includes seeking information from and sending information to group members, providing updates and clarification along with learning opportunities and engagement. With regards to FA, many opportunities are coming up that involve faculty attention: the hiring of a new MCC president, the flexible calendar, and changes to the professional development program. FA always communicates effectively but is most intentional when it comes to pressing issues like the ones stated above.

What quality do I admire in others? Perseverance. I admire the students I work with most. Students with disabilities could have some of the most challenging life events and their disability is only one of them. It may take them several years to complete their goal, but they keep returning, set back after set back. They seek out resources, ask for support, request accommodation, stand up for themselves, and advocate for their needs. Kindness and patience from others help our students persevere and reach their goals.
